Mavacamten falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Let me start with the most important point: jequirity isn't really a supplement at all. Its red seeds contain abrin, a toxin so dangerous it's in the same family as ricin. So my first piece of advice has nothing to do with Camzyos (mavacamten), please don't take jequirity in any form.

That said, here's the interaction on paper. Lab studies suggest jequirity can slow down CYP3A4, the same liver enzyme that helps clear mavacamten. In theory, that could let mavacamten build up, and since this drug already needs careful dose adjustments, higher levels could weaken your heart's pumping and cause shortness of breath, dizziness, or swelling. This is only test-tube data, but the real risk here is the toxin itself. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

“Grapefruit is the first thing I would set aside for anyone taking mavacamten (Camzyos), the medicine for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It blocks CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears mavacamten, and too much of this drug can weaken the heart's pumping strength, the very problem careful dosing exists to prevent.”
