Efavirenz falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Here's the situation with passion flower and your HIV medicine, efavirenz. Efavirenz is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies hint that passion flower might gently speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, your body could clear efavirenz a little faster, which in theory could lower its blood levels. Since efavirenz works best when levels stay steady to keep the virus suppressed, anything that nudges levels down is worth keeping an eye on.

That said, this is based only on test-tube research, and the effect looked much weaker than known strong inducers. It's a minor, theoretical concern, not a proven problem. Still, because keeping HIV controlled matters so much, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding passion flower.

Efavirenz is used to treat HIV-1 (human immunodeficiency virus type 1) infection. It is always used together with other antiretroviral medicines — never on its own.

It is approved for adults and for children who are at least 3 months old and weigh at least 3.5 kg (about 7.7 lbs). Both the capsule and tablet forms are approved for this use.
