Here's the simple version. Prazosin already relaxes your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that, at least in theory, can also lower blood pressure by widening blood vessels. Stack the two together and you may get more of a dip than you bargained for.

What that could feel like with Prazosin is dizziness, lightheadedness, or even fainting, especially when you stand up quickly. That first-dose drop is something Prazosin is already known for, so adding periwinkle could make it worse. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how the compounds work, not strong human studies. Still, I'd run it past your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.

What Is Prazosin Used For?

Prazosin hydrochloride capsules are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medications, such as diuretics (water pills) or beta-blockers.

Managing high blood pressure is part of a broader approach to heart health, which may also include changes to diet, exercise, and other medications as directed by your prescriber.
