Periwinkle + Verapamil
Verapamil brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, and others.
Periwinkle has a moderate interaction with Verapamil. Theoretically, taking periwinkle may increase the effects of antihypertensive drugs due to the hypotensive activity of vincamine, a constituent of periwinkle.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Verapamil
Verapamil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Periwinkle interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: verapamil already works to lower your blood pressure and ease the heart's workload. Periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that may gently relax and widen blood vessels too. So the worry is that the two could add up, pushing your blood pressure a little lower than intended. That might leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, unusually tired, or wobbly when you stand up quickly.
I'll be honest with you, this concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than strong human studies. It's not a dangerous combination so much as something to keep an eye on. Please don't stop either one on your own. Just check in with your pharmacist or doctor, and let them know if you notice dizziness or low readings at home.

Questions About Periwinkle or Verapamil
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Periwinkle or Verapamil, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

This page covers Periwinkle only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Verapamil page lists 295 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Verapamil page
“This is one of the longer interaction lists we publish, and with verapamil (Calan, Verelan) it warrants genuine care, starting with the ten major-rated entries. Verapamil lowers blood pressure and slows the heart, so most of the 295 ingredients on file either push that effect further than intended or change how much of the drug reaches…”

About Periwinkle
What is Periwinkle?
- Memory and cognitive support
- Circulation problems
- Dizziness and ringing in the ears
- Minor wounds and sore throat (traditional)
- High blood pressure (traditional)
Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.
About Verapamil
What Is Verapamil Used For?
Brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, Calan, Covera HS, Verap, Veramil
Verapamil tablets and film-coated tablets are used to treat angina — including vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina, unstable angina, and chronic stable angina — as well as certain abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure (essential hypertension). For arrhythmias, regular-release tablets are used alongside digoxin to control heart rate in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation, and to help prevent episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a type of rapid heartbeat.
Extended-release and sustained-release oral forms (tablets and capsules) are indicated specifically for high blood pressure. Verapamil hydrochloride injection is used in hospital settings for rapid conversion of SVT to normal rhythm and for temporary control of fast heart rates in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation.

Verapamil Is Linked to Lower Levels of 2 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Verapamil as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Periwinkle — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
