Here's the gist: Azilsartan (Edarbi) is a blood pressure medicine, and periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Stack the two together, and the worry is that your pressure could dip a bit too low. This isn't a quirk of how Azilsartan is broken down, it's simply two things pushing in the same direction.

If your blood pressure runs low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or wobbly when you stand up. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how periwinkle works, not strong human studies, so don't panic. Still, since periwinkle can be potent, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.

What Is Azilsartan Used For?

Brand name: Edarbi

Azilsartan medoxomil tablets — sold as both the generic Azilsartan Medoxomil and the brand Edarbi — are approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Bringing blood pressure down lowers the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially stroke and heart attack.

The medication can be used on its own or alongside other blood pressure medicines. It is not a cure for high blood pressure, and managing the condition fully often involves lifestyle steps like limiting sodium, exercising, and quitting smoking.
