Here's the gist: pindolol already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and slowing your heart rate. Periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that, at least on paper, can also widen blood vessels and nudge blood pressure down. Stack the two together and you may get a bigger drop than you bargained for.

In practice, that could mean feeling dizzy or lightheaded, getting tired, or feeling like you might faint, especially when standing up quickly. I'll be honest with you though, this concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than strong human studies. Pindolol isn't a prodrug, so there's no flip in direction here. Before adding a periwinkle or vinpocetine supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor so your blood pressure can be watched.

Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.
