Here's the basic idea with these two. Periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Timolol, a beta blocker, is already working to slow your heart rate and bring your pressure down. Stack the two together and their effects could add up, in theory pushing your numbers lower than intended.

What that might feel like is dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when you stand up), unusual tiredness, or a slower heartbeat. I'll be honest with you though, this concern is theoretical, based on how periwinkle behaves rather than real-world reports. Still, since blood pressure is involved, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your Timolol on your own.

Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.

What Is Timolol Used For?

Brand names: Blocadren, Timol, Timoptic

Timolol is available in ophthalmic (eye) forms and as an oral tablet, and each form has its own approved uses. Ophthalmic formulations — including Betimol, Istalol, Timolol GFS, Timolol hemihydrate, Timolol Maleate eye drops, and Timolol Maleate Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution — are used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) in people with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.

Timolol Maleate tablets are used orally for three separate conditions: treating high blood pressure (alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines), reducing the risk of death and repeat heart attack in people who have survived a heart attack and are clinically stable, and preventing migraine headaches.
