Here's the simple version. Amlodipine already relaxes your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that may also widen blood vessels and nudge blood pressure a little lower. Stack the two together and the effects could add up, so in theory your pressure might drop more than expected.

What might that feel like? Possibly more dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when you stand up quickly), tiredness, or in some folks the ankle swelling amlodipine can cause. To be fair, this warning is theoretical, based on how these compounds work rather than solid studies in people, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, before adding periwinkle, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.

About Amlodipine

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norliqva

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
