Here's the gist: amlodipine (Norvasc) already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that may also widen blood vessels and nudge blood pressure down. So when you stack the two, the worry is that they pull in the same direction and your pressure could drop too far.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, get a headache, feel unusually tired, or feel faint when you stand up quickly. I want to be honest, though: this concern is theoretical, based on how the plant behaves in lab and animal studies, not from solid human trials. Periwinkle is also potent on its own, so before pairing it with amlodipine, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norvasc

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
