Here's the gist: olmesartan (Benicar) already works to lower your blood pressure, and periwinkle contains a compound called vincamine that may relax and widen blood vessels too. Stacked together, the worry is that they could push your pressure down a little more than expected. That might leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or even faint if you stand up too quickly.

I'll be honest with you, this concern is theoretical. It's based on how periwinkle behaves in the lab and on its known properties, not on solid human studies showing a real problem. Still, since it's plausible, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, so you can keep an eye on your readings.

Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a flowering plant whose alkaloids are the source of vinpocetine, a compound marketed for memory and brain circulation. Evidence in humans is limited and mixed, and the plant contains potent compounds that can be toxic in larger amounts, so it should be used only with professional guidance. A closely related plant, Madagascar periwinkle, is the source of important cancer chemotherapy drugs but is not safe to use as a home remedy.

What Is Olmesartan Used For?

Brand names: Olmesartan Medoxomil, Benicar

Olmesartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children aged 6 years and older. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is available as Benicar and as generic olmesartan medoxomil tablets, including a combination tablet with hydrochlorothiazide. All of these products are used for high blood pressure.
