Here's the quick picture with rooibos and Dexlansoprazole (Dexilant). Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C19 to help clear this acid-reducing medicine. Lab studies hint that concentrated rooibos extract may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, dexlansoprazole could linger a bit longer and its effects could be slightly stronger.

The good news: dexlansoprazole is already very well tolerated, and even higher levels usually just mean a little more of its usual mild stuff, like headache, diarrhea, or stomach upset. This concern comes only from test-tube research, not from people, and a normal cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using strong rooibos supplements, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up.

Here's the gist: your body partly uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down dexlansoprazole (Dexilant). In lab dishes, concentrated rooibos extracts seem to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, more of the drug could linger in your system, which in theory might mean a slightly stronger effect or a bit more chance of side effects like headache, diarrhea, nausea, or stomach upset.

The reassuring part: this is based only on test-tube research, not on people, so it's quite theoretical. A regular cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using strong rooibos extract supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on things.

About Dexlansoprazole

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
