Why this applies to Hexobarbital

Hexobarbital falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Schisandra interacts with.

Theoretically, schisandra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that schisandra inhibits CYP2C19, and animal research shows that schisandra increases the concentration of voriconazole, a CYP2C19 substrate. Theoretically, schisandra may also inhibit the metabolism of other CYP2C19 substrates. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Hexobarbital is an older barbiturate sedative, and your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to help break it down and clear it out. Schisandra appears to slow that same enzyme down, at least in lab dishes and animal studies. If that slowing happened in people, your body might clear Hexobarbital more slowly, letting it build up a bit.

In plain terms, that could mean stronger or longer-lasting effects from this drug, things like deeper drowsiness, grogginess, dizziness, or feeling overly sedated. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube and animal work, and it has not been shown in humans. Still, since barbiturates leave little room for error, please run this combination by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.
