Hexobarbital falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Theanine interacts with.

Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.

Hexobarbital is an older barbiturate sedative, so it already works by calming brain activity and making you sleepy. The thought here is pretty simple: theanine may gently nudge your relaxation chemicals (like GABA) in the same direction, so stacking it on top of Hexobarbital could, in theory, add to the drowsiness. That might show up as extra grogginess, slowed reactions, or feeling more out of it than usual.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not strong proof. It's rated minor and unlikely, and only some people in one study even felt drowsy from theanine alone. Still, since Hexobarbital is a potent sedative, mention any theanine use to your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
