Prucalopride falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Theanine interacts with.

Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.

Here's the short version: this is a very mild, mostly theoretical concern. Prucalopride works on serotonin receptors in your gut to help things move along, and theanine may nudge serotonin activity in the brain. On paper, stacking two things that touch serotonin raises the question of too much serotonin effect. In reality, the research on theanine and serotonin is all over the place, with some studies showing a rise and others a drop, and there are no real-world reports of theanine causing serotonin-related problems.

So I wouldn't lose sleep over this combo. Just be aware of your usual prucalopride effects like cramping, loose stools, headache, or nausea, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding theanine if you have questions.

What Is Prucalopride Used For?

Brand names: Resotran, Resolor, Motegrity

Prucalopride tablets — sold under the brand name Motegrity and also available as generic prucalopride and prucalopride succinate — are indicated for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. CIC is ongoing constipation with no identified underlying cause.

This indication applies to all approved oral tablet forms of prucalopride. It is not approved for use in children; a study in pediatric patients was stopped early because the medication did not show effectiveness in that age group.
