Nimodipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Theanine interacts with.

Theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.

Here's the thing with nimodipine: it's a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels, so it already tends to nudge blood pressure down as part of how it works. Theanine, the calming amino acid from tea, has shown in animal studies that it may also lower blood pressure a little. Stack the two together and, in theory, you could see blood pressure dip more than expected.

If that happens, you might notice lightheadedness, dizziness, or feeling faint, especially when standing up quickly. To be fair, this is based on lab and animal research, not strong human data, so the real-world effect may be small. Since nimodipine is used in a serious situation (bleeding around the brain), please don't add theanine without first checking with your doctor or pharmacist.

What Is Nimodipine Used For?

Nimodipine — available as capsules and oral solution — is used to improve neurological outcomes after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a type of bleeding that occurs around the brain when an intracranial berry aneurysm ruptures. It works to reduce the incidence and severity of ischemic deficits (areas of the brain damaged by reduced blood flow) that can follow this kind of bleed.

This use applies across nimodipine capsules, nimodipine oral solution, and Nymalize oral solution. It is indicated for adult patients regardless of how severe their neurological condition is at the time treatment begins.
