Temazepam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Theanine interacts with.

Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.

Here's the simple version: temazepam already calms brain activity to help you sleep, and theanine may gently nudge those same calming brain chemicals (like GABA) in the same direction. So in theory, taking them together could add up to a little extra drowsiness, grogginess, or that heavy-headed feeling the next morning. With a sleep aid like temazepam, you might also feel less steady on your feet if you get up during the night.

That said, this is only a theoretical concern based on how each works, not something proven to cause problems, and it's rated minor and unlikely. The amount of theanine in a cup of tea is unlikely to matter much. Still, before pairing a theanine supplement with temazepam, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

Temazepam capsules — sold as Restoril and under the generic name Temazepam — are indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia, generally 7 to 10 days. They help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

This medication is intended for short periods only. If sleep trouble doesn't improve within 7 to 10 days, that may signal an underlying medical or psychiatric condition that needs its own evaluation.
