Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.

Here's the gist: nadolol (Corgard) already lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate. Theanine, the calming amino acid from tea, may nudge blood pressure down a little too. Put them together and there's a chance your readings could dip more than expected, which might leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, unusually tired, or faint when you stand up quickly.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. The concern comes from animal studies, not solid human research, so it's more theoretical than proven. For most folks, theanine is mild and well tolerated. Still, since you're on a blood pressure medicine, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and keep an eye on how you feel.

What Is Nadolol Used For?

Nadolol tablets are used for two main conditions: high blood pressure (hypertension) and angina pectoris (ongoing chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart). Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

For high blood pressure, nadolol may be prescribed on its own or combined with other blood pressure medications, especially thiazide-type diuretics (water pills). For angina, it is used for long-term management to help reduce how often chest pain occurs.
