ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate
Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Sweet Woodruff interacts with.
Sweet woodruff contains coumarin and coumarin derivatives. However, the levels of coumarin found in sweet woodruff are so low that clinically relevant effects are doubtful. Until more is known, use with caution.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the deal with combining sweet woodruff and your Anacin with Codeine product. The aspirin in this combo already thins your blood a bit and makes platelets less sticky. Sweet woodruff contains coumarin, a compound that can, in theory, add to that blood-thinning effect and slightly raise your odds of bleeding or bruising. Think things like nosebleeds, easy bruising, or a cut that takes longer to stop.
The good news is that the coumarin levels in sweet woodruff are very low, so a real-world problem here is unlikely, and this concern is based on pharmacology rather than solid human studies. Still, if you take this herb regularly or notice any unusual bleeding, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.
