Meprobamate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tianeptine interacts with.

Tianeptine has sedative effects; high doses may have additive effects with other CNS depressants.
Higher doses of tianeptine have opioid like effects and may have additive effects with other sedative drugs. In one case report, a 42-year-old male presented with respiratory depression and aspiration pneumonia due to concomitant use of high-dose tianeptine and alprazolam.

Here's the simple version: both meprobamate and tianeptine slow down your brain and body. Meprobamate is a tranquilizer that calms you by quieting brain activity, and at higher doses tianeptine behaves a lot like an opioid. Stack them together and those calming effects can pile up.

What that can look like is heavy drowsiness, dizziness, slurred speech, confusion, and in the worst case slowed or shallow breathing. There's a real case where someone combined high-dose tianeptine with a sedative and ended up with dangerous breathing trouble. This concern is based on how these drugs work rather than large studies, but I'd take it seriously. Please don't change anything on your own. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Meprobamate Used For?

Brand names: Equanil, Miltown, Meprospan, Neuramate

Meprobamate tablets are used to manage anxiety disorders or to provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It is intended for anxiety that rises to the level of a disorder — everyday stress and tension that most people experience generally do not require this type of medication.

Because its effectiveness beyond four months has not been well studied, meprobamate is typically used for a limited period of time, with a prescriber checking in regularly to decide whether continued use is still appropriate.
