Oxymorphone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tianeptine interacts with.

Tianeptine has sedative effects; high doses may have additive effects with other CNS depressants.
Higher doses of tianeptine have opioid like effects and may have additive effects with other sedative drugs. In one case report, a 42-year-old male presented with respiratory depression and aspiration pneumonia due to concomitant use of high-dose tianeptine and alprazolam.

Here's the concern with combining tianeptine and oxymorphone. Oxymorphone is a strong opioid pain reliever that already slows down your breathing and makes you drowsy. Tianeptine, especially at the higher doses found in many over-the-counter 'gas station' products, acts on the same opioid receptors and adds its own sedating, breathing-slowing effects. Stacking the two can pile on these effects.

In plain terms, you could see deeper sedation, confusion, very slow or shallow breathing, and in a worst case, an opioid overdose. This warning is based mostly on how these drugs work and a case report, not large studies, but with two opioid-like substances the risk is real. Please don't combine them without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Oxymorphone Used For?

Brand names: Numorphan, Opana, Opana ER, Opana Injection

Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Tablets (immediate-release) are used to treat acute pain severe enough to require an opioid when other pain treatments are not enough. Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets are used to manage severe, persistent pain that needs to be treated with a daily opioid over an extended period and when other options are inadequate.

Both forms are reserved for situations where non-opioid medicines or other approaches have not worked well enough. Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets are not meant to be taken on an as-needed basis — they are for ongoing, around-the-clock pain management only.
