Tasimelteon falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tianeptine interacts with.

Tianeptine has sedative effects; high doses may have additive effects with other CNS depressants.
Higher doses of tianeptine have opioid like effects and may have additive effects with other sedative drugs. In one case report, a 42-year-old male presented with respiratory depression and aspiration pneumonia due to concomitant use of high-dose tianeptine and alprazolam.

Here's the short version: tasimelteon (Hetlioz) already nudges your body toward sleep by acting like your natural melatonin. Tianeptine, especially at the high doses found in those gas station products, can act like an opioid and bring its own heavy sedation. Stack the two and the calming effects can pile up, leaving you more drowsy, foggy, or slow to wake than you'd expect from your sleep medicine alone.

This concern is based mostly on how these substances behave, not on solid studies with tasimelteon specifically, so think of it as a reasonable caution rather than a proven danger. The bigger worry is tianeptine itself, which carries real risks of addiction and breathing problems. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with it.

What Is Tasimelteon Used For?

Brand names: Hetlioz, Hetlioz Lq

Tasimelteon capsules are approved to treat Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Disorder (Non-24) in adults. Non-24 is a condition where the body's internal clock does not align with the normal 24-hour day, causing sleep and wake times to shift continuously.

Hetlioz capsules are also approved to treat nighttime sleep disturbances in Smith-Magenis Syndrome (SMS) in patients 16 years of age and older. Hetlioz LQ oral suspension is approved specifically for nighttime sleep disturbances in SMS in pediatric patients ages 3 to 15 years.
