Tianeptine and Aspirin

Chronic use of aspirin might increase the levels and clinical effects of tianeptine.
Aspirin is converted to salicylic acid in the body. In vitro research shows that salicylic acid binds to the same protein sites as tianeptine, displacing protein-bound tianeptine and leading to higher levels of tianeptine in the blood.

Here's the short version of what we have on file. When you take aspirin regularly, your body turns it into salicylic acid. In lab studies (not in people yet), that salicylic acid competes for the same protein parking spots in your blood that tianeptine normally uses. Bump tianeptine off those spots, and more of it floats around freely, which can mean a stronger tianeptine effect.

With tianeptine, stronger effects are a real concern, since at higher levels it can act like an opioid (drowsiness, slowed breathing, and a serious risk of dependence). I'll be honest with you: this evidence is only test-tube level, so it's more of a yellow flag than a sure thing. But because over-the-counter tianeptine is unsafe to begin with, please talk with a pharmacist or doctor before mixing these.
