Turmeric + Cinoxacin
Cinoxacin brand name: Cinobac.
Cinoxacin falls into 2 drug categories that Turmeric can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, turmeric might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Turmeric interacts with whole categories of medication. Cinoxacin falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Turmeric in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Cinoxacin
Cinoxacin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Turmeric interacts with.
There is concern that turmeric might cause hepatotoxicity, especially when highly bioavailable formulations are used in high doses.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: Cinoxacin (Cinobac) is an older antibiotic from the quinolone family, used mainly for urinary tract infections. Like many drugs, it's processed through your liver, and on rare occasions antibiotics like this can stress the liver. The concern here isn't that turmeric changes how Cinoxacin works. It's that both could, in theory, put a little extra strain on your liver at the same time.
I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is mostly theoretical and based on scattered reports, not strong studies. The turmeric you sprinkle on food is very unlikely to matter. The worry is really about concentrated, high-dose, high-absorption curcumin supplements. If you take those, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP)
2 of 2Cinoxacin also falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP).
In vitro research shows that the turmeric constituent curcumin competitively inhibits OATP4C1 transport. This transporter is expressed in the kidney and facilitates the renal excretion of certain drugs. Theoretically, taking turmeric might decrease renal excretion of OATP substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Cinoxacin is an older antibiotic from the quinolone family used mainly for urinary tract infections. Your kidneys clear it from your body, and that's where turmeric could play a small role. In lab studies, curcumin (the main compound in turmeric) blocks a kidney transporter called OATP4C1 that helps push certain drugs out into your urine. In theory, slowing that exit could let a bit more cinoxacin linger in your blood.
Honestly, this is very theoretical. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The turmeric in your curry is a non-issue. If you're taking a concentrated curcumin supplement alongside cinoxacin, just mention it to your pharmacist so they can keep an eye on things.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Turmeric
What is Turmeric?
- Joint pain and arthritis
- Inflammation
- Digestive upset
- Antioxidant support
- Skin conditions
Turmeric is a popular spice whose main active compounds, curcuminoids, are studied mostly for inflammation and joint pain. Some research is promising, but quality is mixed and curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own. For most people, dietary amounts are safe, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated supplements, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or have a medical condition.
