Defibrotide Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Vinpocetine might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical research shows that vinpocetine decreases red blood cell aggregation, as well as plasma and whole blood viscosity. This effect has been seen with intravenous vinpocetine 1 mg/kg and oral vinpocetine 30 mg daily. Vinpocetine also seems to have antiplatelet effects.

Here's the simple version: defibrotide is a clot-busting (antithrombotic) medicine, so it already nudges your blood toward less clotting and more bleeding. Vinpocetine appears to add its own mild blood-thinning effect. Research suggests it makes red blood cells less likely to clump and lowers the blood's thickness, and it seems to slow platelets too. Stacking those two effects together could raise your bleeding risk.

What that might look like in real life: easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bleeding that's harder to stop. Keep in mind defibrotide is given in a hospital for a serious liver condition after a stem-cell transplant, so your care team is already watching you closely. Still, don't add vinpocetine without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Defibrotide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Defitelio

Defitelio (defibrotide injection) is used to treat hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) — also called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) — in adult and pediatric patients. This is a serious condition where small blood vessels in the liver become blocked, most often after a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT).

Defitelio is specifically indicated when VOD is accompanied by kidney dysfunction or pulmonary (lung) dysfunction, making it a treatment for one of the most severe forms of this complication.
