These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Wild Lettuce interacts with whole categories of medication. Hyoscyamine, Phenobarbital falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Wild Lettuce in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Hyoscyamine, Phenobarbital
Hyoscyamine, Phenobarbital falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Wild Lettuce interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: your medication already contains phenobarbital, a barbiturate that calms the nervous system and can make you drowsy. Wild lettuce is traditionally used to relax and help with sleep, so the worry is that the two could pile on top of each other. When sedating things stack up, you may feel extra sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or slowed down, and your breathing can become more shallow than usual.
To be fair, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how each works rather than strong human studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, since phenobarbital is potent, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially before driving or at bedtime.

ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
2 of 2Hyoscyamine, Phenobarbital also falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with this combo. Your medicine pairs hyoscyamine, which is an anticholinergic (it dries up secretions and calms cramping in the gut), with phenobarbital, a sedative. Wild lettuce is calming on its own, and some reports suggest it may carry a tiny bit of anticholinergic-type activity, especially if you take a lot of it. So the worry isn't a chemical clash in your liver. It's simply piling similar effects on top of each other.
Practically, that could mean more dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, trouble urinating, or extra drowsiness from the phenobarbital side. The evidence here is weak and mostly from people using big amounts, so an occasional small dose is unlikely to be a big deal. Still, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
