Probiotic Support Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Rise-N-Shine
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic Support against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This capsule contains seven active probiotic ingredients: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium breve, and Bacillus subtilis (branded as DE111). These are live, beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut flora.
The inactive ingredients — vegetable cellulose, maltodextrin, and medium chain triglyceride — are fillers and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence varies by strain and condition. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus subtilis (DE111) is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea. For Bifidobacterium longum and Bifidobacterium breve, the evidence isn't established yet — we hold insufficient data to rate them for most conditions.
Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus don't have effectiveness ratings in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal ones — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea — though these are uncommon.
There is a rare but serious concern: in very ill or immunocompromised patients (especially critically ill infants, preterm infants, or those with recent surgery or severe immunosuppression), these live bacteria have occasionally caused bloodstream infections like bacteremia and sepsis. If you're seriously ill, immunocompromised, or have a compromised heart valve, talk to your doctor before starting this product.
Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation; safety data for the other ingredients during pregnancy or breastfeeding are limited or absent, so discuss with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check antibiotic drugs before you start this product. All four of the probiotic strains we have data for — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium breve, and Bacillus subtilis — interact with antibiotics (Moderate severity).
Taking them together may reduce how well the probiotics work. Space out the doses, or ask your pharmacist for timing advice.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic blend may help with IBS and antibiotic-associated diarrhea, especially the Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bacillus subtilis strains. If you're taking antibiotics, space out your doses — don't take them at the same time.
If you're seriously ill, immunocompromised, or have had recent surgery, check with your doctor first. Run your medications through the checker on this page before you start.

Probiotic Support by Rise-N-Shine Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Probiotic Support by Rise-N-Shine contains several live bacterial strains that interact with antibiotic drugs.
The most serious concern is Moderate: antibiotics can kill the live organisms in these probiotics, reducing their effectiveness. This applies to Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium breve, and Bacillus subtilis (DE111).
The same interaction pattern holds across all four — if you're taking antibiotics, you'll want to space out the doses.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
We couldn't check three of the seven active ingredients — Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus — because we hold no interaction data for them. To see whether your specific antibiotics fall into this group, use the medication checker below.
Your pharmacist can also help you time your doses so the antibiotic and probiotic don't cancel each other out.

Probiotic Bacteria
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
