Here's the simple version. Enovid-E is an older birth control pill that combines an estrogen (mestranol) with a progestin (norethynodrel). Like other oral hormones, it passes through your liver and can occasionally put a little stress on it. The concern here isn't about how fast the pill is broken down. It's about adding two things that can both be hard on the liver at the same time.

Ashwagandha has been tied to rare cases of liver trouble, and combining it with a hormone pill could, in theory, raise that risk. This is a theoretical caution, not something proven, so don't panic. Just watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting ashwagandha.

Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

This combo pairs ashwagandha with an older birth control pill that contains mestranol (which your body turns into ethinyl estradiol) plus a progestin. Both hormones are cleared mainly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, ashwagandha appeared to speed up that enzyme, which in theory could lower your hormone levels a bit and weaken how well the pill works.

Honestly, this is a very weak, theoretical concern. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so we don't know if it happens in real life. Still, with a contraceptive, even a small dip could matter for preventing pregnancy. I wouldn't panic, but please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding ashwagandha.
