Lansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ayahuasca interacts with.

Theoretically, ayahuasca might increase plasma concentrations of CYP3A4 substrates.
Ayahuasca contains beta-carboline alkaloids. In vitro research suggests that beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Prevacid (lansoprazole). Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medicine. The beta-carboline compounds in ayahuasca can slow that enzyme down, at least in lab dish studies. If that happened in a real person, lansoprazole could hang around a bit longer and its levels could creep up.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. This is only theoretical, based on test-tube work, and it has not actually been seen in people. Lansoprazole is also a pretty forgiving, low-risk drug, so even a small bump usually just means more of its mild side effects, like headache, diarrhea, or stomach upset. Beyond all that, ayahuasca carries its own serious risks. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
