ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Cyproheptadine
Cyproheptadine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Bacopa interacts with.
Bacopa seems to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and might increase acetylcholine levels, which could counteract the effects of anticholinergic drugs. Similarly, anticholinergic drugs might counteract the cholinergic effects of bacopa.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Cyproheptadine (Periactin) works by blocking acetylcholine, one of the brain and body's chemical messengers. Bacopa appears to do the opposite, nudging acetylcholine levels up. Because they pull in opposite directions, taking them together could, in theory, blunt each other a little. You might notice your cyproheptadine doesn't calm the itching, sneezing, or runny nose quite as well, and bacopa's memory benefits could also be dampened.
I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's a theoretical concern based on how these two work, not something proven in real patients. It's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor, but it's not a reason to panic or stop anything on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cyproheptadine page
“Cyproheptadine (Periactin) is an older antihistamine that dries you out and slows you down on its own, which is exactly why its supplement list warrants genuine care rather than a quick skim. Of the 72 ingredients on file, three carry a major rating.”

About Bacopa
What is Bacopa?
- Memory and cognitive support
- Anxiety and stress
- ADHD symptoms
- Age-related memory decline
- General brain health
Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. It is generally well tolerated but can cause stomach upset, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.
About Cyproheptadine
What Is Cyproheptadine Used For?
Brand name: Periactin
Cyproheptadine treats a range of allergy-related problems. These include year-round and seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, and allergic conjunctivitis (eye irritation) caused by inhaled allergens and foods.
It is also used for mild, uncomplicated skin reactions like urticaria (hives) and angioedema (swelling under the skin), cold urticaria, and dermatographism. It can ease allergic reactions to blood or plasma. After a severe anaphylactic reaction has been brought under control, it can be used alongside epinephrine and other standard treatments. The tablet and the oral solution or syrup labels list the same uses.
