Ulipristal Acetate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution. In vitro, the breadfruit constituent artocarpin can inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. Also, animal research shows that breadfruit leaf extract can weakly inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. However, it is unclear if this inhibitory activity causes a clinically meaningful effect on the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.

Here's the situation with breadfruit and Ella (ulipristal). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down ulipristal. Some lab and animal studies hint that compounds in breadfruit leaves might gently slow that same enzyme down. If that happened, a bit more ulipristal could linger in your body, which in theory could nudge up its usual effects like headache, nausea, belly cramping, or spotting.

The honest truth: this is theoretical and based only on test-tube and animal work, not real people. The effect looks weak, and eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to matter. Since Ella is a one-time emergency dose, the bigger concern is concentrated leaf teas or extracts. If you use those, just check with your pharmacist first.

Ella (ulipristal acetate) is used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or when another form of birth control has failed or was used incorrectly. It must be taken as soon as possible, within 5 days (120 hours) of that event.

Ella is intended for occasional, emergency use only — it is not a substitute for regular, ongoing contraception.
