Breadfruit + Vincristine
Vincristine brand name: Vincasar.
Breadfruit has a minor interaction with Vincristine. Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Vincristine
Vincristine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: your body clears vincristine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The idea on file is that breadfruit, especially concentrated leaf teas or extracts, might gently slow that enzyme down. If that happens, vincristine could linger a bit longer and hit harder, which could mean more of its usual side effects like nerve tingling or numbness, constipation, or low blood counts.
Now, the honest part: this is theoretical. It comes from lab and animal studies, not from people, and we don't know if it matters in real life. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to be an issue. Since vincristine is serious chemo, please run any breadfruit supplement or leaf product past your oncology team first.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Vincristine page
“Because vincristine (Vincasar) is chemotherapy, used against leukemias, lymphomas, and several other cancers, the interactions on this page deserve genuine caution, starting with the three rated major. Nearly all of these supplements change how the body clears vincristine, through the CYP3A4 enzyme or the P-glycoprotein transporter, wh…”

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
