Caffeine and Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.

Why Are There 2 Interactions?

Caffeine interacts with whole categories of medication. Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Caffeine in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

1 of 2

Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone

Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Caffeine interacts with.

Theoretically, caffeine may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Caffeine is reported to have antiplatelet activity. Theoretically, it might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with these agents; however, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Here's something interesting about Damason-P: it already contains aspirin, which is itself a blood thinner that keeps platelets from sticking together. Lab studies suggest caffeine may have a mild antiplatelet effect of its own, so in theory, adding extra caffeine on top of the aspirin could nudge your bleeding risk up a little. Think easy bruising, a nosebleed that takes longer to stop, or stomach irritation from the aspirin part.

That said, this connection has only been seen in test tube and animal research, never proven in actual people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over a normal cup of coffee. If you take large caffeine pills or notice unusual bruising or bleeding, please check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

STIMULANT DRUGS

2 of 2

Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase stimulant adverse effects.
Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Probable Evidence C

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing worth knowing: this medication, Damason-P, already contains caffeine right alongside the aspirin and hydrocodone. So if you add more caffeine from coffee, tea, energy drinks, or a separate supplement, you're essentially stacking caffeine on top of caffeine. The concern here isn't about the medicine being broken down differently, it's simply that the stimulant effects can add up.

In practice, that might mean feeling jittery, a racing or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge. This is based on expert opinion rather than strong studies, so for most people it's mild. Still, since you're already getting a caffeine dose in the pill, I'd keep your extra caffeine modest and chat with your pharmacist if you feel wired or your heart races.
