This combination product already has two ingredients that can make you drowsy: codeine (an opioid pain reliever) and methocarbamol (a muscle relaxant). Corydalis yanhusuo may have its own calming, sedative-like effects on the nervous system. So the worry here isn't about your body breaking the drug down differently. It's simply that stacking two sedating things on top of each other could add up.

If they pile up, you might feel more sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or slow to react, and in larger amounts breathing can become too shallow. Keep in mind this caution is theoretical, based on lab and animal data rather than solid human studies. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and avoid driving until you know how you feel.

Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence show that berberine can inhibit CYP2D6. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the wrinkle with this combo product. The codeine part is a prodrug, meaning your body has to convert it into morphine (its active painkiller form) using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Corydalis may gently slow that same enzyme down. So in theory, instead of building codeine up, it could actually leave you with less of the active morphine, which may mean weaker pain relief from the codeine.

To be honest, this is only a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave in the lab, not from solid human studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since Corydalis hasn't been well studied for safety and codeine carries its own risks, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
