Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Animal research suggests that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, a clinical study suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also reduce blood pressure.

Here's the simple version: amlodipine already works by relaxing your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Corydalis yanhusuo contains compounds (like berberine) that may nudge blood pressure lower on their own. So taking the two together could stack their effects and drop your numbers a bit more than amlodipine alone would.

If that happens, you might notice signs of low blood pressure, things like dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, feeling unusually tired, or a faster heartbeat. I'll be honest with you though: this concern is mostly theoretical, based on lab and animal work plus one small study, so it's far from certain. Please don't stop or change either one on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.

Here's the gist for your blood pressure pill. Your body clears amlodipine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Corydalis contains berberine, which may slow that same enzyme down a bit. If that happens, amlodipine could hang around in your system longer than usual, making its effect a little stronger.

What might that look like? Possibly more of amlodipine's usual side effects, like swollen ankles, dizziness, flushing, headache, or blood pressure that runs lower than expected. That said, this concern comes only from lab and early research, not solid human studies, so it's theoretical. Please don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining the two.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norvasc

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
