Here's the simple version. Corydalis yanhusuo has natural compounds that may have a mild calming, sedative effect on the brain. Aristada (aripiprazole lauroxil) is a long-acting antipsychotic injection that can already cause drowsiness, dizziness, and a foggy or slowed-down feeling for some people. Put the two together and, in theory, that sleepiness could stack up and feel stronger.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It's based mostly on lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a 'keep an eye out' than a red alert. Since your aripiprazole stays in your system for weeks after each shot, mention the herb to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't drive until you know how you feel.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear aripiprazole. Corydalis yanhusuo (which contains berberine) may slow that enzyme down. If it does, your aripiprazole could break down more slowly and build up a bit higher than expected. Aripiprazole is the active drug here, not a prodrug, so more in your system means stronger effects and a greater chance of side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, tremor, or feeling lightheaded when you stand.

One reassuring point: this concern is theoretical, based on lab work rather than solid human studies, so it may never cause a real problem. Still, since Aristada is a long-acting injection you can't easily "undo," please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
