Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help break down clomipramine. Corydalis yanhusuo may slow that enzyme down. When the enzyme works slower, clomipramine can hang around longer and build up in your blood, which is the opposite of a prodrug situation. More drug means a bigger chance of the side effects this medication is already known for, like dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, a racing or irregular heartbeat, and sometimes trouble with rhythm at higher levels.

One honest caveat: this concern is theoretical, based mostly on lab studies, not solid human trials. Still, since clomipramine affects the heart and nervous system, I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine, which lab and early human research suggests can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Your body uses that enzyme as one of the routes to clear clomipramine. If the enzyme works more slowly, clomipramine could build up a bit higher than usual. It's an active drug (not a prodrug), so more of it in your system means a stronger effect.

In practice, that could show up as more of clomipramine's usual side effects, like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat. I'll be honest though, this is only theoretical right now and not proven in people taking these two together. Still, before adding corydalis, please check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on you.
