Salmeterol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.

Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for your Serevent inhaler. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear salmeterol out of your system. Corydalis contains berberine, which may gently slow that same enzyme down. If it does, salmeterol could linger a bit longer and its effects could be amplified. With this drug, that mostly shows up as a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness or tremor, headache, or muscle cramps.

That said, this is theoretical, based on how the herb behaves in lab studies rather than real patients, so the actual risk is likely small. Still, since salmeterol already affects the heart, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Corydalis. Don't change your inhaler on your own.

What Is Salmeterol Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand name: Serevent

Serevent Diskus (salmeterol inhalation powder) is used for three main purposes: treating asthma in patients aged 4 and older alongside an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), preventing exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in patients aged 4 and older, and providing long-term maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD — including chronic bronchitis and emphysema — in adults.

Important: Serevent Diskus is not a rescue inhaler. It will not relieve a sudden asthma or COPD attack. For asthma, it must always be used together with an inhaled corticosteroid — using it alone for asthma is contraindicated due to a serious risk of asthma-related death.
