Norgestrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist of it. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down norgestrel, the progestin in your mini-pill. In test-tube studies, devil's claw appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in people, your body would clear the hormone a little more slowly, so levels could nudge upward. That might mean more of the usual progestin-type effects, like spotting or breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness, mood changes, or headaches.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is only lab and animal data, and it has not been seen in actual patients. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding devil's claw, especially since this is your birth control.

What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?

Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
