Gatifloxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Dolomite interacts with.

Theoretically, the magnesium in dolomite might decrease the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Dolomite contains magnesium, which can form insoluble complexes with quinolones in the gut. Advise patients to take oral quinolones at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after dolomite.

Here's the gist with gatifloxacin, an antibiotic in the quinolone family. The calcium and magnesium in dolomite can latch onto this antibiotic right there in your stomach and gut, forming clumps your body can't absorb well. The worry isn't that gatifloxacin becomes dangerous, it's the opposite: you may absorb too little of it, so the infection you're treating might not clear the way it should.

The good news is timing fixes this easily. A common suggestion is to take your gatifloxacin at least 2 hours before, or 4 to 6 hours after, the dolomite. This is based on how these minerals behave rather than hard studies, but it's a sensible, well-known precaution. Run your exact schedule by your pharmacist or doctor to be sure.
