Norgestrel falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Epistane interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Epistane is an anabolic androgenic steroid, and more specifically a 17-alpha-alkylated androgen. Therefore, there is concern that epistane has hepatotoxic effects. Also, epistane is structurally similar to epitiostanol, which has been associated with hepatotixicity in a case series of four patients.

Here's the simple version: both of these can be tough on your liver, and stacking them together may add up. Norgestrel, your progestin-only birth control pill, is processed by the liver and can occasionally stress it. Epistane is a methylated anabolic steroid that's known to be hard on the liver too. Put them side by side and the theoretical worry is that the liver strain piles on.

I want to be honest: this concern is based on how these drugs behave, not on solid studies, so it's more of a caution than a proven danger. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Honestly, epistane is best avoided altogether. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing these.

What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?

Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
