Nifedipine falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Epistane interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Epistane is an anabolic androgenic steroid, and more specifically a 17-alpha-alkylated androgen. Therefore, there is concern that epistane has hepatotoxic effects. Also, epistane is structurally similar to epitiostanol, which has been associated with hepatotixicity in a case series of four patients.

Here's the gist for nifedipine: this isn't a classic 'one changes the level of the other' situation. The worry is that both can be hard on your liver, and stacking them may add up. Epistane is a methylated anabolic steroid that's well known to stress the liver. Nifedipine, while usually gentle that way, can in rare cases cause liver irritation too.

Honestly, the bigger concern is epistane itself, which we strongly suggest avoiding. It can also raise your blood pressure, working against what nifedipine is doing. This particular interaction is theoretical, based on how the drugs behave rather than real reports, so don't panic. Still, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

What Is Nifedipine Used For?

Brand names: Procardia XL, Adalat PA, Adalat, Nifedin, Nifed PA, Nifed, Procardia, Adalat XL, Adalat CC, Adalat LA, Adalat Retard, Adipine MR, Adipine XL, Cardilate MR, Coracten SR, Coracten XL, Fortipine LA 40, Hypolar Retard 20, Nifedipress MR, Nifopress Retard, Tensipine MR

Nifedipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic stable angina (chest pain brought on by physical effort), and vasospastic angina (chest pain caused by spasm of the coronary arteries, sometimes called Prinzmetal's angina). Lowering blood pressure with nifedipine helps reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

The capsule form is approved for vasospastic angina and chronic stable angina only — it is not approved for high blood pressure. The extended-release tablet (including Procardia) covers all three uses: vasospastic angina, chronic stable angina, and high blood pressure.
