Maraviroc falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Epistane interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Epistane is an anabolic androgenic steroid, and more specifically a 17-alpha-alkylated androgen. Therefore, there is concern that epistane has hepatotoxic effects. Also, epistane is structurally similar to epitiostanol, which has been associated with hepatotixicity in a case series of four patients.

Here's the concern with pairing these two: both can be tough on your liver. Epistane is a methylated anabolic steroid that's well known to stress the liver, and Maraviroc also carries its own warning about liver injury, sometimes serious. Stacking two liver stressors together could add up, raising your odds of problems like belly pain, nausea, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or unusual tiredness.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical interaction based on how each affects the liver, not something proven in studies together. But Epistane isn't a real supplement, it's an illegal designer steroid I'd steer you away from entirely. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing anything new with your HIV medication.

Epistane is a synthetic anabolic steroid (a methylated 'designer steroid'), not a true dietary supplement or herb, even though it has been sold as a 'prohormone.' It is liver-toxic, can disrupt your natural hormones, and is illegal to sell as a supplement in the US under the Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act. We strongly recommend avoiding it and talking with a doctor or pharmacist.

About Maraviroc

What Is Maraviroc Used For?

Brand names: Celsentri, Selzentry

Maraviroc treats a specific type of HIV-1 infection called CCR5-tropic HIV-1. It is always used alongside other antiretroviral (anti-HIV) medicines — never alone. A special test called a tropism assay must be done before starting treatment to confirm you have the right type of HIV.

Selzentry (the brand-name oral solution and tablet) is approved for adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 2 kg. Generic maraviroc tablets are approved for adults and pediatric patients aged 2 years and older weighing at least 10 kg. Neither form is recommended for patients whose HIV is classified as dual/mixed-tropic or CXCR4-tropic.
