Riluzole falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Epistane interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Epistane is an anabolic androgenic steroid, and more specifically a 17-alpha-alkylated androgen. Therefore, there is concern that epistane has hepatotoxic effects. Also, epistane is structurally similar to epitiostanol, which has been associated with hepatotixicity in a case series of four patients.

Here's the heart of the issue: riluzole is already known to be hard on your liver, and your doctor checks your liver blood work regularly while you take it. Epistane is a methylated anabolic steroid that is also tough on the liver. Put two liver-stressing substances together and the worry is that the strain could add up. This isn't about one drug changing the other's levels, it's simply two hits to the same organ.

To be honest, this concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than reported cases with this exact pair. Still, signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness deserve quick attention. Beyond that, epistane isn't a legitimate supplement and we'd steer you away from it. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything with riluzole.

What Is Riluzole Used For?

Brand names: Rilutek, Tiglutik, Exservan

Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
