Alogliptin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Epistane interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
Epistane is an anabolic androgenic steroid, and more specifically a 17-alpha-alkylated androgen. Therefore, there is concern that epistane has hepatotoxic effects. Also, epistane is structurally similar to epitiostanol, which has been associated with hepatotixicity in a case series of four patients.

Here's the simple version: this isn't about your blood sugar going too high or too low. The worry with Epistane plus alogliptin (Nesina) is mostly about your liver. Epistane is a methylated anabolic steroid that's known to be hard on the liver. Alogliptin, while usually gentle, has been linked in rare cases to liver problems too. Put two liver stressors together and the concern is they could add up.

Honestly, the bigger issue here is the Epistane itself. It's illegal to sell as a supplement, can wreck your hormones, and we'd steer you away from it entirely. Watch for warning signs like yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing these.

Alogliptin tablets — sold under the brand names Alogliptin and Nesina — are used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Alogliptin is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, as it would not be effective in those situations.
