Here's the thinking behind this one. Satralizumab (Enspryng) calms down an overactive immune system to protect the nerves in NMOSD. Fermented wheat germ extract, on the other hand, has shown in animal and lab studies that it may stimulate immune activity. So in theory, the supplement could push in the opposite direction from your medication and slightly blunt how well it controls your disease.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how things work in a lab, not from people taking both together. We don't have real-world proof it causes flare-ups. Still, because a weaker effect could mean returning NMOSD symptoms, please run this past your neurologist or pharmacist before adding it.

What Is Satralizumab-mwge Injection Used For?

  • Satralizumab-mwge injection is used to treat neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD; an autoimmune disorder of the nervous system that affects eye nerves and the spinal cord) in certain adults. Satralizumab-mwge is in a class of medications called interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor inhibitors. It works by blocking the activity of the part of the immune system that may damage certain areas of the nervous system in people with NMOSD.
