Garcinia + Lovastatin
Lovastatin brand names: Mevacor, Altocor.
Garcinia has a moderate interaction with Lovastatin. Theoretically, concomitant use with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of developing liver damage.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Lovastatin
Lovastatin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.
There have been reports of acute hepatitis with elevated liver enzymes associated with garcinia, when taken alone or in combination with other ingredients. Case reports collected from the Drug Induced Liver Injury Network suggest this risk may be greater in people who carry the HLA B*35:01 allele.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing Garcinia and lovastatin: both can occasionally stress the liver. Statins like lovastatin sometimes nudge your liver enzymes upward, and Garcinia has its own rare reports of liver inflammation (acute hepatitis), even when taken by itself. The worry is that using them together could stack that risk and make liver trouble a little more likely.
To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical caution based on how each one behaves, not solid proof that the combo causes harm. It isn't about Garcinia changing your lovastatin levels. Still, watch for signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Garcinia, especially if you have any liver issues.

This page covers Garcinia only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Lovastatin page lists 184 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

By severity: 8 major · 140 moderate · 36 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lovastatin page
“Lovastatin (Mevacor) lowers cholesterol, and the liver clears it through an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is where most of these 184 supplements collide with it. This list deserves careful attention.”

About Garcinia
What is Garcinia?
- Weight loss
- Appetite suppression
- Curbing sugar and carb cravings
- Supporting metabolism
- Traditional cooking and souring agent
Garcinia is a tropical fruit whose rind contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), widely marketed for weight loss and appetite control. The scientific evidence is weak and mixed, with most studies showing only small or no meaningful weight effects, and rare reports of liver problems raise safety concerns. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have liver issues, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
About Lovastatin
What Is Lovastatin Used For?
Brand names: Mevacor, Altocor
Lovastatin is used to lower high LDL ("bad") cholesterol and total cholesterol in people whose levels have not improved enough with diet alone. It is also used to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries (coronary atherosclerosis) in people who already have coronary heart disease.
In adults without existing heart disease but with high cholesterol and low HDL ("good") cholesterol, lovastatin tablets are approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, unstable angina, and the need for procedures to open blocked arteries. Lovastatin tablets are also approved for adolescents aged 10–17 with a specific inherited condition called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH), when diet changes alone haven't been enough.

Lovastatin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Lovastatin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Garcinia — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
