Here's the honest take on green tea and your canagliflozin (Invokana): this is a pretty minor concern, and the evidence behind it is mixed at best. Some reports suggest green tea or its caffeine might nudge blood sugar a little, but they don't even agree on which direction. Canagliflozin doesn't rely on a liver enzyme that green tea would block or speed up, so there's no clear chemical clash here.

In real life, a few cups of green tea alongside your medication is very unlikely to throw off your blood sugar control. If you take concentrated green tea extract pills, that's worth mentioning to your pharmacist, mostly because high doses can stress the liver. Just keep an eye on your glucose readings and check in with your doctor if you notice anything odd.

About Canagliflozin

What Is Canagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Invokana

Invokana (canagliflozin) is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes.

In adults with type 2 diabetes, Invokana is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in those with established cardiovascular disease, and to reduce the risk of serious kidney complications — including end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure — in those with diabetic kidney disease and high levels of protein in the urine.
