Here's the basic idea with indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and your estrogen. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help process estrogen, and lab and animal studies suggest I3C can rev that enzyme up. If it speeds up the breakdown, your body could clear estrogen a little faster, which might mean lower levels and weaker relief. In practice that could look like hot flashes, night sweats, or vaginal dryness creeping back, or less protection for your bones.

The important thing to know is that this is theoretical, based only on animal and test-tube research, not solid human studies. Eating broccoli or cabbage at meals is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated I3C supplements are the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding one.

Here's the gist: indole-3-carbinol (I3C) may push back against the estrogen you're taking. It seems to nudge your liver toward breaking estrogen down into weaker forms, and it also appears to have some direct anti-estrogen activity. So pairing the two could, in theory, blunt how well your estrogen works, meaning your menopause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, or vaginal dryness might creep back.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. Most of what we know comes from lab and animal studies, not solid human trials, so it's more of a 'keep an eye on it' than a red alarm. The small amounts of I3C you get from eating broccoli or cabbage almost certainly won't matter; concentrated supplement doses are the concern. Before adding an I3C supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
