Here's the gist for your birth control pill (the estrogen plus progestin combo in Logynon or Microgynon). Indole-3-carbinol, the compound from broccoli and cabbage, may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 that helps process the estrogen part of your pill. If that happens, your hormone levels could drop a little, and in theory that might mean weaker protection against pregnancy or some breakthrough spotting.

Now, I want to be honest about the evidence: this is based only on animal and lab studies, not real people, so it's far from proven. Eating broccoli at dinner is not a worry. Concentrated I3C supplements are a bigger question. If you rely on this pill to prevent pregnancy, please run the supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Your pill, Logynon or Microgynon, combines two hormones: ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen) and levonorgestrel (a progestin). The concern here is that indole-3-carbinol may push back against estrogen activity and may also nudge the liver toward clearing estrogen a bit faster. In theory, that could weaken the estrogen part of your pill.

I want to be honest about the evidence: this comes mostly from lab and animal work, so it is preliminary, not proven in real patients. Still, with birth control even a small dip in reliability matters, since weaker estrogen levels could mean spotting, breakthrough bleeding, or less dependable pregnancy protection. The I3C you get from eating broccoli or cabbage is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplement doses are the real question. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.
