Dienogest falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First things first: jequirity isn't really a supplement you should be using at all. Its seeds contain abrin, a toxin in the same family as ricin, and it can be deadly. So my honest advice is to steer clear of it entirely, separate from any drug question.

As for the interaction itself, it's quite weak. Lab-dish studies suggest jequirity may slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme, and your body uses that same enzyme to clear Dienogest (Visanne). In theory, blocking it could let Dienogest build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual effects like headaches, breast tenderness, mood changes, or irregular spotting. But this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding, not something seen in real people. The real worry here is the toxicity of jequirity, not the Dienogest. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using anything new.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.
